Lynn Cadmus
Lynn Cadmus works as a pharmacist at Petaluma Valley Hospital and
lives in Novato with three cats and a recently adopted stray, Smokie.
She moved to California in October 1999 from Asheville, North Carolina,
where she enjoyed playing flute and piccolo in a community band. She
now plays in the Petaluma Community Band. In one of our spring eNewsletters,
we inquired about what draws our students into playing and learning
music. Lynn responded this way:
"Music has always been in my life since childhood, with both
parents playing piano and singing in church. I have played flute for
more than 30 years and never thought of exploring another instrument until
last year. Thirteen months later, I am hooked on a Richie Sambora
strat and a Line 6 Spider II amp and able to play a few songs.
"For me, curiosity is one of the reasons I wanted to learn
guitar. I wanted to understand how the instrument was
played and also be able to play the music of one of my favorite groups,
Bon Jovi. Once lessons began, I really enjoyed my teacher, Mike
Rao.
He is an excellent motivator, non-judgmental, and patient. Having
a good teacher is key to encouraging a student to continue with lessons
and is one of the reasons that I haven't given up whenever I get discouraged.
Blue Bear is fortunate to have him.
"It is really stimulating to be able to learn something new...
a wonderful hobby. I am able to set goals, drive to
accomplish them and be rewarded with a sense of achievement.
It is really nourishing my spirit and soul. And my next goal is to
play in a Blue Bear workshop band! I am very excited to have started
this journey, and am really looking forward to see what the future
holds."
