Bonnie Hayes
Bonnie Hayes is a Grammy-nominated songwriter and producer, as well
as a recording artist and performer in her own right. After having
a national college radio hit with her band the Wild Combo in 1983 with
the song "Shelly's Boyfriend," she went on to write for
artists as diverse as Bette Midler, Robert Cray, Adam Ant, Booker T
and the MGs, David Crosby and Cher. In 1989, Bonnie Raitt recorded
two of her songs, "Have a Heart" and "Love Letter," on
the comeback Grammy-winning CD Nick of Time. Hayes
also toured as a keyboard player and backing vocalist for artists like
Billy Idol and Belinda Carlisle before settling in the Bay Area to raise
her daughter in 1998.
An experienced and popular teacher, Bonnie conducts songwriting workshops
and classes at Blue Bear and through the West Coast Songwriters Association,
and offers private consultations in everything from writing, arranging
and demoing pop songs to most other career, creative and performance
issues musicians face. Her teaching style is flexible and intuitive,
with an emphasis on practical skills and adapting teaching style to
learning style. Trained as a jazz musician, with extensive experience
playing blues and roots music as well as writing pop songs, she is able
to move easily between styles of music.
In addition to teaching songwriting and designing and implementing the teen School
of Rock summer program at Blue Bear, she currently plays sporadically, albeit
enthusiastically, in local venues with her guitar band the Superbonbons
and produces records in her Protools studio.
