Brent Goodbar
Since earning a Master's Degree from the San Francisco Conservatory
of Music in 2000, I have maintained a teaching position at the Blue
Bear School of Music for which I have provided a diverse curriculum
for beginning, intermediate and even advanced practices in piano, guitar,
classical music, jazz, music theory, songwriting and improvisation. My
students are varied in age, but I find a great connection with young
and older adults, as I like to move quickly and challenge them into
thinking of music in ways they may not have been made aware of in the
past. I'm very privileged to have an extensive background
in classical, jazz, and even pop and rock music. All of which
helps to communicate to students from any background on a musical level,
and get them interested in having music as an important expressive tool
in their lives.
For the last six yeas I have performed with many ensembles around the
Bay Area, primarily jazz and musical theater. Most gigs I have
are generally short term, as I like to reserve a great deal of free
time for being creative. I also get a lot of opportunities for
composing/arranging for various organizations, as well as little collaborations,
such as short independent films. I have an extensive background
of many diverse awards and other recognitions for my musical achievements,
including first place in the Billboard Magazine Songwriting Contest
and the Highsmith Award for Orchestral Composition.
As far as recent creative endeavors go, I've recently completed
an album entitled For When I'm Gone, several
tracks from which can be heard at my website: mrgoodbarmusic.com
And if you like what you hear, feel free to order a copy. Also
available at the site are other tracks I've recorded over the
years. Mostly there are a lot of live orchestral works, as well
as tracks from a musical I'm working on rewriting about "The
Rat Pack" and new material as I manage to get it completed. At
any rate, visit the website, I'm sure you'll find something
you'll like. Happy listening!
