Tal Morris
Back in 1980, Tal Morris was a young guitar student at Blue Bear making his way by bus with his Fender Strat to work on his chops and try to understand that weird fretboard. Years later, Tal has made his mark in the big leagues with bands as varied as Creedence Clearwater Revisited, The Sons of Champlin, Huey Lewis and the News, and his own trio Mojo Pi. When Tal plays, ears perk up, heads turn, hearts are moved. Huey Lewis describes Tal as "the quintessential Bay Area guitar prodigy."
We are fortunate that Tal has returned to Blue Bear as a teacher. After
many years of dedicated study, not only at Blue Bear, but with the likes
of Scott Henderson, Robben Ford, Charlie Hayden, Joe Diorio, Steve Kimock,
and Neal Harris, plus years of playing in bands ranging from the Ronnie
Montrose Band to Shaka Ra Mutela and World Pop, Tal's playing
and his understanding of music have indeed become world class. He's
developed a loyal following of students who are inspired by his playing
prowess and empowered by his teaching.
Student Mitchell Stevko has this to say about Tal's seminar The
Mighty Magic Triad: "Tal has been able to take what were
previously complicated explanations of guitar theory
and make them easy to understand and practice. I think the program
he designed for learning 'triads' to play chord voicings
anywhere on the fretboard is the best I've ever seen. He
is a truly gifted guitarist and teacher."
Tal Morris is a superb musician with a passion for teaching, someone who brings a bit of the buzz of the Rock & Roll world into your lesson while helping you along from wherever you are to whatever level you might want to take it. Someone who remembers that he once sat right where you're sitting.
