BLUE BEAR LIVE IV
A Benefit for Youth Music Education
Featuring Los Lobos
Since they began as Los Lobos Del Este Los Angeles in 1973, East Los Angeles rockers Los Lobos have evolved into a respected artistic entity and a prolific group that has assembled an incredibly diverse yet distinct body of work. The band's vast catalog of music blends blues, rockabilly, jazz, Latin and sounds of the band members' own Mexican-American heritage. Not ones to hammer fans with politics or agendas, Los Lobos instead create conscience-raising songs with thought-provoking lyrics. After more than three decades the band continues to captivate fans worldwide and redefine how a rock band - and rock music - can sound.
Many musical groups are eclectic, but few are both as unpredictable and successful as Los Lobos. The band has notched a number one single, won three Grammys, and sold millions of records. They've shared the stage with acts as varied as Dylan, The Clash, and U2. And they've received tremendous critical acclaim - from their major label debut, How Will the Wolf Survive? (named one of the "500 Greatest Albums of All Time" by Rolling Stone) to their most recent effort, The Town and The City, a CD that drew rave reviews from such publications as Mojo, The Independent and London's Daily Mirror, which said the album "documents a people's history as potently as Bob Marley's Exodus."
Los Lobos have maintained a creative vitality throughout their career, and amazingly they've been able to hold fast to their hard won critical and commercial success. As Rolling Stone writes, "With the exception of U2, no other band has stayed on top of its game as long as Los Lobos."

Performances by Blue Bear STAR Program Youth Bands
Proceeds from Blue Bear Live I led directly to the partnership between Blue Bear School of Music and San Francisco's James Lick Middle School, and the development of Blue Bear's STAR (Schools That Aspire to Rock) Program. What began as a modest guitar instruction program has evolved into an innovative public school music program that meets daily and serves more than 100 students at this diverse multi-lingual middle school in San Francisco's Noe Valley. Under the direction of Blue Bear instructor Josh Graves, students learn the technical aspects of music as well as the history and cultural relevance of contemporary music. At Blue Bear Live II and III, STAR Program students wowed the sold-out crowds at the Great American Music Hall - an amazing performance opportunity for these aspiring young musicians. This year, at Blue Bear Live IV, James Lick students in the Blue Bear STAR Program will once again demonstrate that the future of live music performance is in good hands.
