Support Music Education
For this year's annual benefit concert, we're bringing a taste of New Orleans to San Francisco! Please join us for Blue Bear Live V on Friday, May 14 at Bimbo's 365 Club, featuring Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue. This young band is winning fans with their dynamite live performances at their hometown NOLA Jazz & Heritage Festival and festivals and venues across the U.S., and accolades from the likes of Allen Toussaint, Wynton Marsalis and U2's The Edge, as well as The Village Voice, Rolling Stone and Offbeat, which honored charismatic bandleader Troy "Trombone Shorty" Andrews with "Performer of the Year." Special guests include Zigaboo Modeliste, legendary, pioneering drummer of seminal funk group The Meters, who has worked with a wide array of artists such as Keith Richards, Dr. John, Robert Palmer, John Fogerty and Harry Connick Jr., and Ivan Neville, progeny of New Orleans's famous Neville family, Dumpstaphunk bandleader, and multi-instrumentalist who has performed and/or recorded with The Rolling Stones, Bonnie Raitt, Gov't Mule and more. The evening will begin with performances by Blue Bear Youth Bands.
Blue Bear Live is a wonderful party that draws support from our community - 30,000+ strong since our school was established in 1971 - and benefits our youth music programs including the STAR (Students That Aspire to Rock), Studio 101 and Summer Camps, as well as Scholarships and Sliding Scale tuition grants.
These programs serve more than 1,300 San Francisco Bay Area kids, nearly half of them from low income families and under-served communities.
