Sax Lessons with Skerik @ Blue Bear!

Blue Bear is very pleased to introduce our new Master Artist Series - a combination of performance, technique discussion, personal stories and audience Q&A that give you an opportunity to interact with well established musicians in a unique and intimate setting. Our Master Artist Series is both instruction and entertainment, for both musicians and fans!

Program 4 in our exciting new Master Artist Series features a live performance and clinic by Skerdio, a brand new duo featuring saxophonist Skerik and lyricist Radioactive.

Seattle saxophonist and Bay Area favorite Skerik (Critters Buggin, Dead Kenny G's, Garage a Trois, Syncopated Taint Septet, Roger Waters, Les Claypool) will bring his latest electronics set up that allows him to efficiently change timbres, sounds and directions. He will demonstrate signal path, unity gain and survival in the electronic music world, meaning survival techniques using any sound system found in any club, theater, church or cult headquarters. From microphones to monitors and everything between, mysteries will be unveiled.

Worldwide underground legend emcee and beatboxer Radioactive (New Native, Top Four Flights, New Clear Vission, True World Order, and formerly of Michael Franti and Spearhead), who holds two Australian Gold Records, will teach standard beatboxing, mic rocking, looping, lyric writing and hook making. He'll also explain crowd participation, mic control, stage presence, album concepts, marketing strategies, freestyling and tour expectations.

Random tips for saxophonists, lyricists, beatboxers and musicians of all types will be brought forth. These two creative characters are joining forces for one night only - don't miss it!

Who should attend this live performance and clinic?

  • Saxophonists - acoustic and rhythmic techniques will be demonstrated.
  • Individuals seeking an alternative outlet of expression.
  • Electronically curious DJs and musicians seeking new signal paths, effects and monitoring techniques.
  • Aspiring musicians wondering what backstage is really like, and what to say if someone asks you to license your hot new single.
  • Non-performing fans of music looking for insight into the mystery of creation.
  • Emcees, beatboxers, poets and lyricists wanting easy to do steps for moving forward in the seriousness of their craft.
  • Those wanting to engage stage presence, crowd rocking, and being comfortable in front of a crowd.
  • Artist and speakers curious about gaining proper mic control and technique.
  • Lyricists and musicians interested in improvisation and freestyling.
  • Anyone wondering what hip hop is.
