You know who you are! But this class will prove you wrong, as you begin to gain control of your
voice through simple exercises and ear training. By the end of 10 weeks you'll see improvement
and enjoy increased confidence.

For those with some band, theater or choral singing experience but little or no previous vocal instruction. Sessions will cover the basics of proper vocal technique: breathing and support, warm-ups, developing your range, tone, placement, articulation, etc. There'll be lots of group vocal drills and some individual presentation of songs.

Do you want to learn to sing with confidence? For those with car or shower singing experience who want to "break the ice" in a supportive, informative, low-pressure group setting, Beginning Voice will cover breath support and basic technique. Through lots of group singing, you'll gain control and learn to trust and enjoy your voice.

Are you ready to take it to the next level? For graduates of Beginning Voice, Singing For People Who Can or Can't Sing, or those with prior vocal instruction, this class will review basic technique and apply it to singing more challenging songs. Includes individual coaching on songs of your choice.

Advanced Voice: Rock Vocals and Tools of Vocal Style

Are you a singer (in any genre) wanting to express yourself with greater emotional power? Do you
understand basic singing technique but have difficulty maintaining it when performing? For
graduates of Intermediate Voice or those with some performance experience and previous
technique instruction, this class will cover important aspects of vocal style and how it affects your
audience. Learn the keys to layering your singing with the foundations of style through the study
of classic songs; and bring your own songs (of any style or genre) for individual coaching on your
vocal performance.

Vocal Technique with Raz Kennedy
Mondays 8-9pm
A member of Bobby McFerrin's Voicestra, Raz is best known for his coaching of many Bay Area bands including Adam Duritz and members of Counting Crows, Tim Armstrong of Rancid, Mark Eitzel, Noelle Hampton and Shana Morrison. Raz emphasizes vocal conditioning, stamina and maintenance.

For graduates of Vocal Technique with Raz Kennedy, this class will take you deeper into the fine points of powerful singing.

Harmony Vocals with Raz Kennedy
Mondays 6:30-8pm
Group harmony singing is one of the most satisfying of musical experiences. Let Raz Kennedy be your guide into harmonizing in the styles of R&B and pop/soul (EWF, Stylistics, The Emotions, Destiny's Child, Isley Brothers, En Vogue, etc.). You'll learn how to create harmonies, work on vocal blending, and make some great music. Includes a performance at the Blue Bear Showcases.

Glee Club! with Pollyanna Bush
Mondays 7-9pm
Glee Club! is a fun vocal ensemble performance workshop focusing on dynamic and blended group singing, featured solos and stage presentation. Drawing upon pop, rock, R&B and musical theater, students will choose their own songs and collaborate in an end of series performance at the Blue Bear Showcases.

Vocal Performance Workshop
Wednesdays 7-8:30pm or 9pm, depending on enrollment

Finding your authentic voice requires getting to the "heart of the matter" within the context of the lyric. In this class you'll learn how to make that connection, then learn techniques to further enhance your overall performance: phrasing, vocal dynamics, and connecting with your audience, along with pitch, timing, rhythm, key selection, mic technique and stage presence.
Class limit: four to six

Beginning Jazz Vocals

For any level singer aspiring to sing solo jazz. An exploration of styles, lyrics, delivery and repertoire, this class also includes vocal warm-ups, piano accompaniment and tips on vocal technique.

Jazz Vocal Performance
Saturdays 1:30-3pm

Eight meetings plus two performances
In this all-singing class, intermediate to advanced vocalists will rehearse and perform a repertoire of jazz songs with expert piano accompaniment. A bassist will join for the last four classes and a drummer will join the last class leading up to performing at a San Francisco club and at the quarterly Blue Bear Showcases with duo or trio accompaniment.

Ear Training with Raz Kennedy
Thursdays 7-8pm
Through in-class drills and directed assignments, this class will develop your ability able to identify and sing intervals and to hear harmonies. Whether you're a singer or instrumentalist, your ear is your key tool for knowing what you are hearing and how to interact with it. Get in shape! Cost: $275
Band Workshops
Student bands organized by the school. Groups arrange and play songs by a variety of artists and groups, and at the end of the session perform live in a San Francisco club.
